UP TO SIX PEOPLE

A little bit of history ... not a common story ! 

When we bought this house, we were told by the estate agent that it was like a semaphore or lighthouse, with wide views over the estuary of the Jaudy and the sea . He was not lying and we couldn't help falling in love with the place ! Also it is very quiet, and we like it when it's quiet ..

In fact, we had just seen and signed for  a FIRST house 17 km away ... but when we saw this one by the sea with its exceptional views , we couldn't help buying this one too ! The prices were very different of course, the value of the one by the sea  much higher because of this beautiful situation ... So after a quick return to our place in Tours to see what our banks could suggest ... and finally we bought both houses, as choosing only one was just impossible ! The one NOT by the sea became our secondary home for 14 years ... and was rented to tourists too, it helped pay for the cost of buying two houses!  

On the other hand  buying "Le Sémaphore" meant a huge mortgage and so the house   was rented on a yearly basis (loan  interests can then be deduced ) ;but  what a shame it was not being able to benefit from it, only exceptionnally, between two tenants, which rarely happened  ! 

So when the latest tenant said he was going to leave early 2016, we were delighted, this was the right time for us to get it back ! We decided to keep it for ourselves, also to promote  it as a holiday home ... we were sure it would become quickly very popular with tourists looking for a beautiful place to stay !

We started refurbishing it, and we thought it would  be ready for mid-June 2016, but of course it wasn't ... We worked really hard till the last minute, for the first guests in August! 

As it is also our  secondary home, it had to be  nice and well-equipped, we like our comfort and nice things!

A short description now ? well, the pictures will tell you a lot too ... 

Some work is still in progress in 2017 and 2018, mainly outside , with new projects ...

Rough description

ON THE GROUND FLOOR:

-lobby +laundry : VERY USEFUL ! 

- large living-room : with the sitting room on one side, the dining room on the other, with a huge window in front of the sofa and armchairs plus another one opposite the dining table 

- small kitchen ( brand-new fitted kitchen and devices) : dishwasher, fridge, oven with freezer, microwave ,  oven ( pyrolise, cold door ), gas cooker

- one bedroom downstairs, double bed ( 160 cm wide, two 80cm mattresses)

- the bathroom brand new shower ( cabin) and wash basin

- separate brand new toilet

FIRST FLOOR :

-one bedroom upstairs with two single beds that can be put next to each other, or not !

_ the landing with a convertible sofa AND NEW TOILET CREATED!

-internet wifi access and telephone ( not for mobile numbers) 

-TV ( 80 cm wide) , satelitte TV

GARDEN : garden furniture , BBQ , on a ground os 1000m² , lawn, hedge, gravel where the cars are parked, garden hut

SITUATION OF "LE SEMAPHORE", your holiday rental In BRITTANY if you wish ! 

- By the sea, overlooking the estuary of the river Jaudy  with its islands, and the ex-house of the Artist CALDER, with a  beach at the bottom of the hill, about 250 meters away 

- 1 km from the village of KERBORS : Restaurant/Bar/ grocery ( fresh bread and croissants !) 

- 3 kms from PLEUBIAN, nice village center, lovely church , bakery , chemist's, supermarket ...

- 5 kms from Treguier, labelled " petite cité de caractère" , a small town with a very rich architectural patrimony, a beautiful famous cathedral, lovely  streets paved with cobblestoines, a sailing and commercial harbour , and of course several hypermarkets 

- the beauty of the area is well-known, some places like the Island of Brehat and the Pink Granite coast, or cities like Saint Malo, Paimpol,  are known worldwide, yet the whole of the area is nice, and you can easily avoid crowds ! The "Côtes d'Armor" department is nice EVERYWHERE ( particularly the coast of course ) believe me !

PHOTOS AVANT POSE D'UNE TERRASSE

La maison est rarement prise en photo, c'est une néo bretonne, entourée de son jardin . Ses atouts principaux sont ...

- sa situation en hauteur qui lui permet de bénéficier de points de vue grandioses, ce qui lui vaut son surnom de "Sémaphore" , sa terrasse à l'ouest 

- sa grande baie vitrée, car grâce à elle, même par mauvais temps, la vue reste superbe  ( qui n'a pas rêvé de voir la tempête se déchaîner, sans en subir les inconvénients ? ) 

- son jardin de bonne taille, avec une partie gravillonnée pour la voiture, une grande pelouse, des fleurs et des arbustes , et surtout une grande haie qui vous préserve une excellente intimité ( on oublie qu'il y a des voisins, seule la mer attire notre regard !)

- son calme ; et l'absence de voitures ! Située sur une petite route sans issue, qui amène à la petite plage, seuls les voisins des quelques maisons aux alentours  empruntent cet itinéraire; et même , pour aller chez nous, vous empruntez sur quelques mètres un sentier de randonnée ! ( carrossable) 

The house itself  is rarely photographied , it's what is called a "néobretonne" , meaning a house which is not made of stone entirely , but used stone for decorative elements . It's  more of less set in the middle of its ground . the original entrance was after a porch, now the porch itself is the real entrance, which is great when it's very windy . 

Its situation on a small hill grants it a superb point of view, views over the estuary and the islands, and it deserves its nickname " Le Sémaphore" ie the lighthouse ... 

- thanks to its huge window, you can enjoy the amazing view even on a rainy day , and a storm is worth seeing from here ! 

- you 'll like the large garden, with one part a sort of gravelled yard ideal to park your car(s) , but mainly a lawn, with flowers and trees , and a long hedge which ensures a real intimacy, ( you forget there are a few neighbours as you can't see them )

- the area is very calm ; very few cars , as only the few neighbours drive along the small road , it's a cul de sac ... ; to get to the house you even use the beginning of a track for hikers ! 

LA CUISINE

La cuisine verra les changements les plus complets, les anciens meubles datant des années 70. Ils étaient de qualité, en massif, construits par un menuisier, mais les tiroirs coulissants, les casseroliers, les meubles encastrés  n'existaient pas encore à l'époque ... Dommage de les détruire quand même ! Photos des travaux  avant et après !

La CHAMBRE AU REZ-DE-CHAUSSEE

Il fallait choisir en tre un lit 160 cm, qui occupe pas mal de place, et un lit de dimension normale de 140 cm. Le choix sera le lit 160. Pour la place un peu restreinte, il faudra trouver des solutions de rangement ... ce seront ultérieurement des étagères et un meuble bas peu encombrant, et une petite penderie dans le couloir juste en face de la porte de la chambre

THE BEDROOM ON THE GROUND FLOOR

Two alternatives : a Queen-sized bed ( 160 cm) or a double bed (full size) : we had to make a decision before going back ... the choice was to have a large bed, but we didn't realize there would be so little space left in the room ! ( 2017 : shelves, mirror, mini wardrobe)

nouvelle décoration, le bleu et le blanc à l honneur ...mais il faudra attendre 2017 pour les détails de déco ! ( rideaux modifés, et coussins pour s'adosser par exemple,  en 2017 seulement)

new decoration in white and blue shades, yet the decoration is limited in 2016, no time enough ! ( was finished in 2017) 

PREMIER ETAGE :Le palier-mezzanine

un espace à utiliser, mlême si ce n'est pas une vraie chambre, nous essaierons d'en tirer le maximum et de le rendre fonctionnel et  agréable . Avec la proximité du nouveau toilette, avec petit lavabo et eau chaude, ce coin détente se transformant en lit devra permettre d'accueillir en tout 6 personnes dans la maison. 

THE LANDING : how to transform a landing into an extra bedroom with a small bathroom-like toilet!

we tried to make the most of this space  at the top of the stairs, so that it could be used as another bedroom, making it possible to have six people sleeping in the house 

2 chambres à l'étage ? Et pas de toilette ? IMPOSSIBLE ! 

ALLEZ, AU BOULOT ! Il FAUT CONSTRUIRE UN NOUVEAU WC A L'ETAGE  ! MAIS QUEL BOULOT ! 

Two bedrooms upstairs, and no toilet ? Impossible ! Let's do the job and build a new space for a new toilet, small washbasin with hot water ! 

working hard, even on July 14th ! building a toilet is almost like building a house : new walls, elec, plumbing, floor etc !

L'ENTREE ET LA BUANDERIE 

La buanderie permet d'avoir un évier pour laver vos légumes , préparer vos poissons, rincer vos affaires de mer ... plus des rangements  supplémentaires. En 2016, ( et après)cela a beaucoup servi à nettoyer les pots et pinceaux !

L'entrée reste  encore en béton brut fin juillet 2016, car même si les carreeaux de céramique sont achetés, difficile de les poser, vu que ... c'est l'entrée et que nous sommes trop occupés !

-the laundry will be refurbished in order to store things, but mainly to have a sink that can be used to rinse dirty stuff, salty swimming-suits and prepare your fish, oysters, mussels , crabs !

For July 2016, it was used to wash pots and paint brushes !

- The entrance : although the flooring ( tiles) was bought in July 2016, we were not able to do that part, as we wouldn't have been able to use the entrance  ( using windows to go in and out would have been difficult !) .. this part will have to wait till our next  journey there ...

Nous avons à Tours une maison située  dans un quartier historique proche du centre et de la Loire ! Maison très ancienne avec poutres et colombages, cour , et au calme ! Elle a été divisée en deux appartements : -un grand gîte pour  1 à 6 personnes aux premier et deuxième étages. Rénové en 2016, il vous offre espace et confort dans un cadre authentique ! Classé trois étoiles

le petit gîte pour deux personnes maximum est très agréable; au RDC, il vous permet de profiter de votre terrasse dans la cour commune ; rénové en 2013, bien aménagé, classé deux étoiles .

Thinking Tours is the right place to stay to visit the area called " la Touraine" which includes OF COURSE the Loire castles in the Loire valley (UNESCO heritage site) ?But also very nice gardens, the Cycling path along the LOIRE river, and so many other nice and historical places !

Well, you are right ! The Touraine is a lovely area, with so much to do and to see that you will definitely leave the Touraine saying "I will come again! " 

So why not stay at our place ? Our furnished flat  will be a good choice but can  only accomodate two lucky people (plus a baby or young kid) : it's near everything yet calm, in a nice and friendly environment, and you will have your own terrace...

Depending on the period of the year, you can rent it for one night, a week-end, a mid-week period, a week, a month etc! Ask us !

Better than a Bed and Breakfast, better than a hotel,  you are independant and ... it's cheaper too !

The owners' other holiday homes !

One is in the south-west of France, 120 km north of Toulouse, 40 km from Albi (Unesco heritage site), in a "département" called "Aveyron " but at the border of two other "départements" Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne. You can fly from Ireland/England to Toulouse and Rodez in France with low-cost air companies, then rent a car and visit this beautiful, authentic rural area.

 Its name is Robin Hood's house ! because it's a lovely place in the middle of the woods !

​​​​​​​The other secondary home and you can rent it for a nice visit of this beautiful and wild part of Brittany   in the "département" Côtes d'Armor; you can get there by plane (low-cost companies from Ireland/England to Nantes, Brest etc. Or you can come by boat (Saint-Malo AND  Roscoff are the nearest ferry ports) . The house is very well located,it overlooks the estuary of the river "Jaudy" and offers beatiful views of the islands, Calder 's former , the workshop, the oysters' nurseries at low tides, beautiful sunsets !

WELCOME TO THIS PRESENTATION OF OUR EX- HOUSE IN COTES D'ARMOR, IN BRITTANY   

Geographical situation:

Ideal location to visit this lovely part of the northern coast of Brittany, the rocky shores and sandy beaches between Saint Brieuc and Roscoff, with famous sites such as Paimpol, Tréguier, Brehat island,  the Pink Granite Coast and other scenic spots, villages, harbours, churches, granite cities...all within easy reach of our house, located near the beautiful and touristic granite city of PONTRIEUX, famous for its old houses and  washing-houses along the river, its harbour, its artists, craftsmen, steam train...

The scenery on the coast is breathtaking, and the tide amplitude makes it all the more attractive. There are many spots of interest, be careful, a week is not enough to see them all!

Our house

We will accomodate up to 7 people. The house is spacious, though  we only offer two bedrooms, plus a convertible sofa in the large sitting-room. The house is a typical "longère", i.e a stone house, later extended and recently renovated; now it's a comfortable, cosy, safe and very pleasant place, where you will be able to enjoy yourself, and relax after your visits in the area. 

You will particularly like the "japanese" bedroom, with its extra-large bed, as welle as the cosy lounge with its fireplace and cheerful colours; the latest innovation is the new second bathroom (the first one has been totally renovated ): imagine relaxing in the swirling hot tub before a sauna (latest technology, with infra-reds), enjoying the "in' technologies chromotherapy and ion-sprayer...


The garden is nice, with a recent lawn, typical flowers from the area...You will love the place, and the view. No visible neighbours, it's a rural area, and the little road past the house is only used by the few locals. So it's a very quiet place, with birds, rabbits, sometimes a fox...  From the top of our little hill, you have a nice view towards the river valley and the surrounding fields.

ACTIVITIES

Within easy walking reach, you get to the riverside, or to the beautiful castle nearby and its outstanding park (free entrance).  You can  also walk along the river...good spot for fishing too !

Are you longing for the beach ? You will have a large choice, the nearest one is about 8kms away; from rocky shores to long sandy beaches, taste a different one each day ! Do as the locals, choose it according to the tide hours !

Do you prefer more sportive holidays ? Well, you and your family will be able to practise various activities : canoeing (in Pontrieux and other places), fishing, sailing, horse-riding, mountain-biking, golf... All along the summer, there is a very interesting formula that enables everyone (child and adult) to discover various sports as well as take part in cultural activities, for extremely reasonable prices !

For children, there are some leisure parks (20 and 40 kms away)

To know more about the culture, traditions, and past of the "Bretons", there are some museums, exhibitions, local feasts..., particularly in summer.
